MAI Thi Lanh – a student of the 8th cohort of Gender & Development Faculty has excellently become the Valedictorian of the 2024 graduation class (2020 – 2024 course) of Vietnam Women’s Academy (VWA), and is also one of the excellent valedictorians honored at the Temple of Literature on October 3, 2024. During her study journey at VWA, student MAI Thi Lanh has achieved many proud achievements, demonstrating her continuous efforts and positive contributions to both the Academy and the community.

Excellent academic achievement: MAI Thi Lanh always strives to achieve the highest academic results and has been recognized with many prestigious awards. Lanh is the valedictorian of Gender & Development major, graduating with honors with an average score of 3.73/4. At the same time, during her studies at the Academy, she maintained a scholarship to encourage learning throughout her 4 years of study and achieved many other outstanding achievements such as:
- First prize in the student scientific research competition, Academy-level.
- Successfully completed the course “Women do business” organized by VWA in collaboration with Unilever Company.
- Leader of “For the Community” project, won First Prize in the Project Initiative competition sponsored by the European Union and Oxfam.
Research and social activities: In addition to her academic achievements, Lanh has also actively contributed to social activities and research on gender, gender equality, school violence and prevention of sexual abuse, such as having a speech in the student law consultation seminar “Law on Prevention and Control of Domestic Violence in 2022 (amended and supplemented)” organized by Gender & Development Faculty (VWA) in collaboration with the Friedrich – Ebert – Stiftung Institute (with the participation of experts from the Social Committee of the National Assembly, the Department of Family – Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Law and Policy Department, Vietnam Women’s Union); having a presentation in the seminar “Sex selection at birth – Consequences of gender stereotypes”; participating in the workshop “Gender and the ability to adapt to climate change”; participating in the “10th Women’s Leadership Dialogue” with Ms. Elisa Fermandez Saenz – Chief Representative of UN Women as the speaker; talk on “Gender equality and the feminist movement in the world and in the US” with Associate Professor, Dr. Jill Chonody, Boise State University, USA; participate in “Scientific Workshop on Interdisciplinary Issues, Sexuality and Gender Equality”…

Youth Union and youth movement activities: MAI Thi Lanh is not only an excellent student in academics but also active in the activities of the Youth Union VWA. She has received a certificate of merit for her excellent achievements in the work of the Union and youth movements, attended the Party Awareness Training class with excellent academic results, won a scholarship from the Central Youth Union and successfully completed the skills course for social innovators.
Community activities: Lanh has participated in many meaningful community activities such as propaganda on Covid-19 prevention, supporting the organization of local cultural events and participating in community projects such as “Waste-free schools” and “Prevention of domestic violence”.
For Lanh, actively participating in the learning and training activities of the Academy, the Faculty, the class, the activities of Vietnam Women’s Union and community service activities would help her gain more meaningful experiences, opportunities to communicate, to earn, to gain experience and to improve herself, which is the foundation for her to achieve proud achievements in your years of studying at university. MAI Thi Lanh’s outstanding contributions and achievements not only affirm the talent and tireless efforts of the students themselves but also affirm the quality of student training of VWA. At the same time, Lanh is also an example for generations of students to have the will to strive and practice every day in both studying, researching and contributing to society.
