Ms. Laura Le Ray participated in an in-depth interview with experts at Vietnam Women’s Academy (VWA), sharing information and experiences on the role of women in peace and security issues. During the exchange, the two sides discussed the ability of Vietnam and countries in the ASEAN region to respond to the issue of Gender in Peace and Security. Specifically, the delegates focused on exchanging the content of how to integrate Gender into policies, activities, and programs on peace and security, in order to empower and enhance the position of women in society.

Women’s empowerment in peace and security issues is one of the important challenges today. Women, not only are victims of conflicts, but also play an active role in peace building and conflict prevention. However, women still face many difficulties in participating and leading these activities. Challenges of gender discrimination, cultural and social barriers, as well as lack of opportunities and resources are prominent issues that women are facing.

During the meeting, Ms. Laura Le Ray and cadres from VWA analyzed in depth the difficulties that women are facing when taking on leadership positions in peace and security. To promote women’s participation, it is necessary to build a comprehensive legal and policy environment that supports and empowers women. Women’s organizations such as the National Committee for the Advancement of Women, the Women’s Union and many others play an important role in promoting gender equality and ensuring women’s rights in these areas.

One of the important highlights of the meeting was the discussion on the development of a National Action Plan in Vietnam to enhance women’s participation in state management and peace and security activities. This plan will facilitate women to contribute more to important decisions related to national and international security. This will not only help to improve the status of women in society but also create new steps in building sustainable peace and preventing conflicts in the region.

To build an effective National Action Plan, the participation of women’s organizations, government agencies, and the international community is needed. The combination of local knowledge and international experience will create a comprehensive strategy, helping Vietnamese women have a stronger voice in national and international issues.
