History of foundation and development
Formerly known as the Central Women Cadre Training School, Vietnam Women’s Academy (VWA) was established with the mission of training cadres of the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) at all levels. Through each historical period, the Academy has developed strongly, from a specialized training institution to a multidisciplinary regular university, meeting social needs in the period of integration and development.
2012 marked an important turning point when VWA was officially upgraded to a university education institution. Currently, the Academy trains at all levels from bachelor’s, master’s to doctoral levels with many diverse majors such as Social Work, Business Administration, Law, Clinical Psychology, etc. In addition, VWA still maintains its core mission of training and fostering female cadres, Union cadres and those working on women, family, and gender equality.
Functions and missions
VWA has the function of training cadres of VWU at all levels, female cadres for the political system, and at the same time participating in training highly qualified human resources to serve the needs of socio-economic development. In addition, the Academy also undertakes the function of scientific research, policy consulting related to women, gender equality and social development.
🌟 Human resources training & development
VWA organizes multi-level training from undergraduate to postgraduate with advanced programs, meeting the requirements of the labor market. The Academy also builds a flexible system of curriculum and training programs, ensuring connectivity and approaching international standards.
In addition to formal training, the Academy also organizes short-term training courses to improve the capacity of Association officials, officials working on women’s work and female leaders in agencies and organizations.
🌟 Scientific research and policy advice
VWA is a research center for issues related to the work of VWU, gender equality, women and family development. The Academy’s research projects not only serve teaching purposes but also provide a scientific basis for policy making and strategies for women’s development, promoting gender equality and enhancing the role of women in society.
The Academy is also a focal point for summarizing practices and advising the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women’s Union and the Party and State on policies related to women, family and gender equality.

VWA focuses on expanding cooperation with international organizations, universities and research institutes around the world to improve the quality of training and scientific research. Through cooperation programs, VWA has implemented many research projects, exchanged lecturers and students with countries in the region and around the world, contributing to strengthening integration and enhancing the position of the Academy in the field of higher education.

VWA pays special attention to recruiting, training and developing lecturers and managers. The Academy’s lecturers are all highly qualified experts and researchers with rich experience in the fields of teaching and scientific research.
In addition, the Academy also takes good care of the material and spiritual life of staff and lecturers, ensuring their rights and creating a professional and creative working environment.

VWA always cares about students’ lives, providing maximum support in studying, researching and extracurricular activities. The Academy also implements priority policies, supporting students in difficult circumstances, students from policy-based groups, remote areas, and ethnic minorities.

In the future, the Academy will continue to promote its 65-year tradition, expand its scale, improve the quality of training, research and policy advice, affirming its role as a pioneer in promoting gender equality and the development of Vietnamese women.
VWA has been affirming its position in the Vietnamese higher education system, making important contributions to the training of high-quality human resources, scientific research and policy advice on women, family and gender equality. With a solid foundation from 65 years of construction and development, the Academy will continue its noble mission, contributing to the sustainable development of the country.
March 8 this year is not only International Women’s Day but also an important milestone marking 65 years of construction and development of VWA (1959–2024) – a proud journey in the career of training, research and development for the advancement of women. The Academy has constantly innovated, grown, and affirmed its position as a leading training and research institution in fields related to women, gender equality and sustainable development. On this special occasion, I would like to express my gratitude to generations of lecturers, students and cadres of the Academy who have contributed to building sustainable values over the past 65 years.
