The appraisal of the Social Media Communication undergraduate program represents a critical stage in the process of finalizing and preparing for the implementation of a new academic offering at the Vietnam Women’s Academy. This initiative responds directly to the increasing demand for qualified communication professionals in the context of a rapidly evolving digital society, where social media platforms exert a profound influence on economic, cultural, and social life.

The appraisal committee, with the participation of distinguished experts.

The appraisal was conducted by a Council established under Decision No. 1527/QĐ-HVPNVN dated December 31, 2025, issued by the President of the Vietnam Women’s Academy. The Council comprised five experienced scholars and practitioners in journalism, communication, and higher education, ensuring both academic rigor and practical relevance. The appraisal session was attended not only by Council members but also by representatives of the Academy’s leadership, the Faculty of Multimedia Communication, the curriculum development team, and academic staff, reflecting the Academy’s strong institutional commitment to the new program.

The training program is systematically designed and closely aligned with practical realities.

The proposed Social Media Communication curriculum was developed in alignment with current legal frameworks, the Academy’s strategic development orientation, and labor market needs in the field of digital communication. The program aims to provide students with solid foundational knowledge in communication, journalism, and multimedia studies, while offering specialized training in social media communication and network-based platforms. The curriculum is structured into five knowledge blocks, with practical training and internships accounting for approximately 57 percent of the total workload, clearly demonstrating an application-oriented approach.

A notable feature of the program is its emphasis on early skills development. From the initial semesters, students are introduced to professional practices, enabling them to gradually build practical competencies and adapt effectively to real-world working environments. In addition, the integration of soft skills throughout the four-year program reflects the comprehensive competency requirements expected of contemporary communication professionals.

Positive evaluations from reviewers and members of the Council.

The Council’s evaluations were largely positive. Reviewers acknowledged that the program’s objectives and learning outcomes are well aligned with the mission and strategic vision of the Vietnam Women’s Academy and are responsive to labor market demands. The curriculum structure was considered coherent and up to date, incorporating emerging trends and tools in digital and social media communication. At the same time, the Council recommended several refinements, including clearer articulation of labor market needs, stronger differentiation of Social Media Communication from other communication programs, and the addition of foundational courses to enhance conceptual clarity and program identity.

In concluding remarks, the Chair of the Council affirmed that the Social Media Communication program was developed with seriousness and academic responsibility. The Council unanimously agreed to approve the program following revisions in line with the feedback provided, particularly regarding conceptual clarification, curriculum coherence, and the reinforcement of the Academy’s distinctive institutional strengths.

Overall, the appraisal process demonstrates the Vietnam Women’s Academy’s proactive approach to curriculum innovation and its responsiveness to the demands of the digital society. With its strong emphasis on practice, ethical standards, gender perspectives, and social responsibility, the Social Media Communication program is expected to contribute meaningfully to the development of a competent, responsible, and socially engaged communication workforce in the digital era.
