Analyzing the context and opportunities for women in the new term
The presentations at the workshop painted a comprehensive picture of the actual situation of Vietnamese women in the context of modern society. They are shouldering dual roles, facing overload and pressure from many sides due to the rapid development of technology and the trend of international integration. However, this challenge is also an opportunity to open new pages associated with success, affirming the role and position of women in the present era. Thanks to the support of State policies and the attention of society, women can participate deeply in the economic, political and social fields. The delegates emphasized that Vietnamese women have the ability to play an important role in the country’s renewal, but this can only be achieved when they are fully equipped with knowledge and skills to adapt to the current context.
However, opportunities come with challenges. Creating a gender-equal environment needs to be implemented more strongly and sustainably, not only within the policy framework but also in community awareness and action. Women still face certain barriers in participating in leadership and decision-making activities at many different levels.
Assoc.Prof. Dr. NGUYEN Duc Chien – Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Sociology Journal – Deputy Director of the Institute of Sociology, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences presented the topic: Current situation of Vietnamese women and some issues for gender equality in the new context.
Challenges in enhancing the capacity and role of Vietnam Women’s Union
Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) is facing many challenges in its new term. Changes in technology and modern social needs require the Union to improve its management, leadership and operational capacity. Delegates at the workshop emphasized the importance of developing soft skills and the ability to apply digital technology for the Union’s cadres. This is a decisive factor for the Union to grasp and respond promptly to rapidly changing social issues.
In addition, the Union’s propaganda and women’s mobilization work needs to be innovated not only in content but also in approach, to suit the trends and requirements of modern society. Taking advantage of digital media channels and social networks will help VWU spread the message effectively and quickly.
Solutions to enhance the application of technology and digital communication
One of the important solutions proposed at the workshop was that VWU should promote the application of information technology and digital communication in women’s work. This includes building social media platforms and implementing digital communication campaigns to disseminate information on gender equality and protect the rights of women and children. At the same time, it is necessary to build creative communication campaigns and multimedia approaches to achieve the highest efficiency in promoting gender equality. In addition, VWU also needs to grasp and apply new technologies to support the training and development of the Union’s cadres, helping them develop their capacity to meet the requirements of the times.

Strengthen training and development of VWU officials
Training and development of VWU’s cadres continues to be considered a key task in this term. Delegates emphasized that, in order to improve management and leadership capacity, VWU needs to develop specialized training programs on management, leadership and other soft skills. This helps VWU’s cadres meet the increasing demands of society and be able to lead the organization to operate effectively. Improving the management and leadership capacity of the Union’s cadres can meet new requirements, thereby helping the Union better promote its role in supporting and protecting women’s rights.
Some proposals also include cooperation with international organizations to exchange experiences and learn from sustainable development models of advanced countries. This will not only help improve the management capacity of VWU but also open up opportunities for international cooperation in the field of gender equality.
Promote social mobilization and protect the rights of women and children
Protecting the rights of women and children is one of the important goals pursued by the VWU. The workshop proposed many practical solutions to strengthen the Union’s role in monitoring and criticizing the implementation of policies and laws related to women and children. At the same time, building a community support network was also emphasized as an effective tool in protecting the rights of women and children from social problems such as domestic violence and sexual abuse.
Dr. DAM Thi Van Thoa, Member of the Presidium, Head of the Legal Policy Committee, Vietnam Women’s Union, shared the topic: Social criticism activities of Vietnam Women’s Union – Some issues and solutions to improve
Economic development and livelihood sustenance for women
Economic development and sustainable livelihoods for women, especially women in rural and mountainous areas, continue to be the focus of women’s work in the new period. Delegates pointed out the need to support women in starting businesses, developing cooperative models, providing vocational training and connecting with financial resources. These are practical solutions to help women improve their economic capacity and contribute to the sustainable development of the community.
Enhancing the role of women in socio-political activities
Another important topic discussed at the conference was the enhancement of women’s participation in political and social activities. Speakers emphasized the need to develop leadership training programs specifically for women, helping them develop their political participation skills and assert their roles in state agencies as well as social organizations.
Delegates sharing opinions at the workshop
Through the 7 presentations of speakers with experience in researching women’s work and gender equality, and the in-depth and dedicated exchanges of the majority of delegates, the workshop proposed comprehensive solutions, from improving the capacity of the Union’s cadres and applying digital technology to developing livelihoods and enhancing the role of women in society. The workshop outlined the image of Vietnamese women embracing many new opportunities in the current social context with the rapid development of technology and international integration. Women can participate more strongly in the economic, political and social fields, affirming their role and position in the renovation period. Delegates emphasized that, in order to make good use of these opportunities, it is necessary to raise social awareness of gender equality, while creating favorable conditions for women to develop their potential.
The workshop “Women’s work and activities of VWU for the 2022-2027 term” brought about important and profound discussions on the situation of Vietnamese women in the new context. The solutions proposed at the workshop not only help the Union promote its role in the new term but also contribute to building a solid foundation for Vietnamese women to develop comprehensively and strongly in an increasingly equal and happy society.
